Applicants

[Print this page] - [Discuss this page]

How we found applicants describes the process by which we invited organizations to apply for grants in all five of our causes. We invited 107 to apply within our international causes (saving lives and global poverty). 59 completed our Round 1 application; 48 did not apply. Full details of how we found applicants, for all five of our causes, are available here.

Our Non-finalists writeup describes how we narrowed these 107 applications down to our 16 finalists: 12 in the cause of saving lives and 4 in the cause of global poverty.

We devote one page to each of our finalists, going in depth on what we know about the organization and its activities, to give a better sense of where the claims in our overview come from. Four of our finalists essentially withdrew from our application process, so all four of them are presented on a single page.

  • Population Services International distributes and markets condoms, ITNs, and other potentially life-saving materials in the developing world.

  • Helen Keller International provides technical assistance for a wide variety of activities centered around preventing blindness and malnutrition.
  • Food for the Hungry is a large, diverse organization, with a particular child survival program that appeals to us.
  • Global Network for Neglected Tropical Diseases is devoted to supporting and unifying efforts to combat a variety of debilitating diseases.
